The picture of concentration camps in Czech prose of the 50/s

This master's thesis The picture of concentration camps in Czech prose of the 50's analyses selected literary works from 1950᾿s. These works are presented by different author's approaches from presented reality. First part of this work focuses on concept of "Holocaust" and on possibility of its verb representation as well. Another part of thesis deals with development of "literature with topic of Holocaust" from 1945 to contemporary times. The emphasis is placed to the texts from 1950᾿s and 1960᾿s that had formed reader's memory. Next chapter observe a permeation and reciprocal influencing of historical and fictional discourse. The picture of life in Nazi concentration camps, the author's character creation as well as representation of Jewishness are analyzed in these works: A Box of Lives by Norbert Frýd, Osm odtamtud by E. The Revenge in Norbert Frýd's and Viktor Fischl's Works

The bachelor thesis focuses on two novels - Krabice živých and Dvorní šašci in which both authors describe events of Second World War. It deals with stylistic and composition processes of both writings and also with the theme of revenge and the related guilt and punishment in connection with the World War II and holocaust. The first part of the thesis deals with Norbert Frýd and his writing Krabice živých, it also states his factual life data, because they serve the better understanding of the origin of the work. The second part of thesis deals with Viktor Fischl and his writing Dvorní šašci and also states the factual data from his life. In the conclusion it summarizes the collected findings. The Jewish theme in representative works of Czech and Slovak literature of 1950s (Frýd N., Otčenášek J., Jašík R.)

The theme of the thesis is a fictional interception of Jewish question in 50´s of 20th century in Czechoslovakian literature based on typological comparison of novel by Norbert Frýd A Box of Lives, of novel by Jan Otčenášek Romeo, Juliet and Darkness and also novel by Rudolf Jašík St. Elizabeth Square. Theoretical part of this thesis takes contemporary cultural context into account and at the same time it outlines life and work of selected authors. The comparison among interpretations of selected pieces viewed from different angles (the structure of composition, the characters, motivation and language) is going to be the very core of this thesis.
